Dog Walking | Important Aspects
A lot people think of a dog walk as the dogs time to do whatever it wants. That is a great intention, but it is a limited perspective and often causes stress in dogs. We offer a more balanced approach which adds mental exercise, active socialization & boundaries, as well as self-expression and learning into the mix. A walk is a beautiful opportunity to give your dog something wonderful, something that is mostly missing for dogs in cities – a job & purpose. Read more in “How to stimulate your dog?”
Physical exercise provides a solid foundation for a healthy dog. Walking, running, playing are all part of this. Frequent exercise is the most beneficial as each one of us can probably confirm based on personal experience. Yet a great workout or adventure once a week surely boosts the dogs state of well being in its own right.
Proper mental exercise is one of the most neglected aspects in a dogs well being these days. A lack of focus & purpose easily unsettles us and so it does dogs.
We make sure that your dog gets a good dose of mental exercise in the form of focus and self-control while being on or off lead. The level of difficulty can be increased with more and varying distractions.
Socialization & Boundaries
More exposure to people, dogs, places, various environments etc helps to relax dogs if the encounters are balanced. Meeting other dogs & people in a calm and relaxed way supports the development of self-control and trust in dogs which is way this is a big part of our Dog Walking Services in Auckland. Behavioral boundaries & respect for each other should be part of such encounters. We introduce these if they are missing.
Self-Expression aka 'Doggieness'
Letting a dog be a dog is a great gift we give on our adventures. They are animals and we let them be express their animal nature at the right time. After all that is partly why we all enjoy dogs so much. To meet them at their level in play is a great way of connecting with them. Working with natural behaviors like chasing, digging & play-fighting in the right environment is great fun and brings them joy.
Dog Walking in Auckland | Neighborhood & Nature Walks
Your dog is walked around your neighborhood, is meeting other dogs & people and has a chance to express itself. We walk the streets and hit the local parks where possible.
Your dog gets one-on-one attention from one of our trained walkers. We care for your pooch, take some pictures and keep you informed on whats happening.
Gentle on lead exercise
Your dog is generally walked on lead and this gently exercised for the duration of the walk. For safety reasons we do not led your dog off lead unless you want us to.
Your dog is also asked to pay attention and follow our walker, this is where mental exercise becomes part of the picture and helps to create a more balanced experience for your dog.
TAKE ME TO NEIGHBORHOOD WALKS
Big adventures in nature
We hit the bush or beach with a group of dogs. Nature provides more stimulation and allows the dogs to express themselves more fully and at the same time they are asked to learn and pay attention.
A ton of socialization
with pack walks of up to 12 dogs of all breeds and sizes. The dogs not only learn from each other but are guided in their interactions by a professional trainer. Timid ones learn to come out, boisterous ones learn to be gentle & and all dogs learn to relax more.
Your dogs gets an 3-5hr adventure in nature with other dogs, mostly off lead. We throw in some games and round it off with mental exercise like walking behind, waiting, sitting & down stays. They also learn to do their own thing while being part of a pack.
Self Expression as nature intended
Digging, playing, chasing, exploring, rolling, frolicking, splashing in water are dogginess in action. Even “apartment dogs” know this by heart. A joy to witness and partake in.
